I remember Zip

I remember Zip.
The day I had to tell Gene Zip died, I cried.
Like he was my own horse, and not another man's.
Zip belonged to us all, folks all over America
Remember Zip, love and cry;
Not just me, but all of these.
We remembre Zip.

Zip would steal the show,
John, I'm going to get my leg caught in the fence...
Put the attention on me, Mr.Zip, would you please?
Hugging in the stall...private moments that I saw.
Sleeping like a dead man, legs froze in space;
Panicked us all.
I remember Zip.

Horse do the lesson wrong, now do it right;
Zip taught us all, how to be
A little more like John, and less like me.
Zip put your head on the mare's tail;
Zip move your head, he did what you said
Not possible; Zip's hard to believe;
I remember Zip

Now look what we've got; 161 who passed
The Certification program--- like little clones of Zip and John
Some better than thee, that's hard to believe;
Others less than thee; takes time to apply
The wisdom we learned;
Because you and Zip gave us
Your heart in your hand

I remember the horse who would come when you called
And then you called us all.
America's changed; will never be the same;
Because of Zip, and John.

I went to the website looking for another set of reins and the moment I saw the photo captioned "Remembering Zip" I was stunned. I sat in my chair, with tears running down my cheeks, reading the tender article.

I sat there for a long time, just thinking and grieving. And I had never even seen Bright Zip. Can you love a horse you never knew? Yes. John Lyons gave Zip to all of us and Zip gave us everything he had.

Your tribute inspired me to write. John and Zip inspire me to learn and to love.

I Remember Zip

Your response made me cry too!
We all get to " meet Zip" through the videos.
Zip put your nose on the mare's tail,
now take it off,
is on Symposium set 1.
If you can't afford the Symposium, request your library order them. My library did, and I live in a small logging town of
400 folks. My library called the local horse community for donations... and raied the money. Library's get so much money per year for new books and tapes.
I would like to see Zip and John in all the library's across the country. Help your horse community meet Zip and John!
Hope this helps.
Have a great day!

I remember being 8 years old and looking through every horse magazine I could get my hands on, trying to convince my Mom that I knew enough for her to get me a horse. First thing I would look for in those magazines was John's ad...you know the one...with Zip lying down, John sitting on his shoulder with a bear very close behind?

I fell in love with Zip the first time I saw that. And have loved him since.

I first joined this board a few months after Zip died. I never knew this message board was here until I came to John's web site to see if he wrote any feeling on Zip's passing.

I remember seeing this poem, I was awed. I remember reading you named your colt "I remember Zip", I was touched.

I returned to the message boards a second time...to reread it. This has a lot to do with why I joined the JL boards. Your poem opened up a new door for me. Thank you Mollie.

I will put your words in my love bucket.

I always felt like Zip was a part of me too. Often when I was working with my horse and she had one of those moments where things clicked and she got it I felt a little like John and Zip. I got the wonderful opportunity to meet John for the second time this past weekend. Once again he changed my horse and me. I feel like this stuff is really making sense now.

John made me feel so special, like what I was telling him was really important to him. He is the most genuine person I have ever met. I owe a large part of my success with horses to him and Zip and I could never thank them enough.

Love,

Heather and Ali (my little Appy)

* My buddie Jackie moved this from the old board to the new board in 2005.*

Oh Mollie, it's so nice to see you back in full force! :D

The archives...the archives.
So much was lost when we lost the original board.
But you and others saved some of our best stuff.
