View Full Version : What's with your User Name?

Tuff e Nuff

I am fairly new to the board so maybe this has been discusses before. I apologize in advanced if it has. What I want to know is how some of you came up with your user name? Looking at the members list there are some very unusual names. Was it because of a horse, a child, just a name you like? I am sure there are some very interesting stories behind our user names and I would be interested to hear some of them.

Paintfancy

I think this is a great question. I've often wondered it myself. Paintfancy simply means that I have a fancy for Paint horses. Pretty silly I guess, but it just kind of stuck.

Mine's boring and self-explanatory LOL. Mine name's Ash and my horse's name is Brenna. ;)

LarknMe
11-17-2005, 11:01 AM
It's like AshnBrenna with me, my horse is Lark, and I'm "me." :p Actually, MandeenLark would have been more suitable!) :D

Appy Trails
11-17-2005, 11:03 AM
I know where yours came from Tuff -tee hee.

Mine's a play on words. I have an Appaloosa so instead of Happy Trails we have Appy Trails. :D

I, too, think this is a GREAT question for the board! :D

I don't know exactly how long you've been on this board, but a while ago there was a problem in the JL discussion board. We just got up one day and you'd go to sign on and the computer didn't recognize our usernames. Most of us had to re-apply and when it got a little confusing, some of us picked new board names. I still don't know whether we were supposed to or not. That's why you'll see some of the names with the "previously known as..." underneath them.

Anyhoo, my previous name had been my horse's name, and then, because I'm in Washington state and because I'm soooooooooooooooooo naive and inexperienced, I picked something that would convey that message to whoever saw it.

Thanx for the GREAT post, Tuff!!!

n2stitch
11-17-2005, 11:10 AM
Mine comes from one of my other hobbies, cross-stitching. Since I'm really 'into' my stitching, and my first on-line experience was on a cross-stitch BB, I used this username. Since then, so many people have known me as n2, or n2stitch, I keep using it. Plus, it's rarely taken on BB's for horses, potbellied pigs, etc. :)

Haunani
11-17-2005, 11:18 AM
Green- When they made the switch to the new board, all the user accounts were lost, which is why we had to re-register. A lot of us kept the same names, me being one of them.

haunani- my middle name. It's Hawaiian for, I think, beautiful cool breezes or beautiful summer breezes. (Nani means beautiful)

Ash I don't think yours is boring or self explanatory. I thought maybe Brenna was a child. I'm sure not everyone’s log in is based on a horse. But again, why are these horses important enough to you to have your log in named after them? Appy Trails & PaintFancy don't have their names after just one horse like some of us do. Ok here is what I am talking about.

Mine is after my mare Tuff. I got her when she was 1 year old but she looked more like a yearling. The guy I got her off of was going through a divorce and most of the other horses he had died because he hadn't cared for them properly. When I got her (free I might add) she was so skinny and her feet were in horrible shape. I had been training some and was very young so when horses got to the point of knowing what they were supposed to do I sold them because they were "boring" to me. Tuff never became boring. Even now she is 11 and still teaches me things. I guess they say there is a horse out there for everyone and she was mine. When I went to school my teacher told me she would never be able to do some of the things other horses did because of her confirmation (she slopes downhill). She proved him wrong. The one thing I have learned with her is that she has the biggest heart! She will give it her all no matter what. I showed her pleasure (she hated it) but she gave it her all and won. We showed barrels, she loved that and we won. She has been used for bulldogging, trails and much more. She has bursitis in her knee from an injury a few years ago so if I ride I have to ride her with a knee brace however she still doesn't miss a step. I try not to ride her to much anymore because I know her leg hurts her but I know deep down in my heart that if I needed to ride her 100 miles for whatever reason that she would give it her all. She has stolen a place in my heart that no other horse could and she will be with me until her end. Just thinking about loosing her makes me tear up. Oh, I'm a wuss.

spotteddrafter
11-17-2005, 11:22 AM
On the old board, I was ottergrad2000, which was my email at the time. Means that I graduated from Otterbein College in 2000.

Now, on this new board, I'm spotteddrafter....I have a spotted draft (the girl in my avatar).

I've been meaning to ask RT how she got her name...I keep forgetting. RT!!!! How did you pick your name?? :)

OregonLadyGirl
11-17-2005, 11:22 AM
Well, my soul mate for a horse is Lady or LadyGirl and I'm in Oregon. lol
You were reading my mind with this post. Great question. ;)

Cassie1
11-17-2005, 11:37 AM
My name stayed the same from old to new board - Cassie is my arab mare, my first horse and the love of my life, so she's #1 in my heart, so I'm Cassie1.

Ginger :D

Tonipony
11-17-2005, 11:56 AM
On the Old Board I was just Toni, but since I have a small herd of ponies now, I am Tonipony. When I was about 3 years old, my family called me Toniponytail and I guess it just set me up for for having a passion for ponies.

RavenToy
11-17-2005, 12:05 PM
HA! Jill.

It's an OLD old old board name. Back before there was a world wide web.

I met my boyfriend online. His screen name (at the time, aka 'handle') was Raven. We joked around for a while and I called myself Raven's Toy, and it stuck.

;)

I never have to worry about anyone else using it. :D

barnkitty
11-17-2005, 12:11 PM
haha

My best kitties have always been barnkittys. I love 'em. And the best one of all was my Boo.

t'was simple: I love cats and I'm in the barn whenever possible... :D

sugarfoot
11-17-2005, 12:20 PM
I was going to the pound to get a second dog and found a big 1 year old dog named Max who was going to be euthenized if I didn't take him since he'd been brought back to the pound twice already (once for tearing up some lady's garage, and the second time for tearing up some other lady's interior of her truck--both times he was left alone, bored, with nothing to do for hours, oh yeah, and he jumped fences)

Max'd been at the pound for 6 months:(

He's a big boy at 80 pounds and white, peppered with small brown spots all over, his face is solid brown except for a stripe between his eyes. He looks like a cross between an akita and a heeler.

Anyhoo, I took him to be pals with my hyperactive 6 month old border collie mix, but I didn't like the name Max. Too plain.

I thought he looked like a Sugarfoot.

I reconsidered though, since they'd been calling him Max for so long, and I got to calling him Maxwell Smart since he can find his way out of any yard IF and only IF he sees there's a strange man near me (like the fence builders that came over to put up a horse fence). Max tore a hole through a wire fence to be between me and the two guys, growling low, letting them know he'd tear em a new one if they tried anything. If he sees everything is fine, he stays in the yard with the other 3 dogs (all from the pound--each year for 4 of my birthdays ... but that's it!! I've reached maximum capacity at 4):p

Anyhoo, I decided to keep the name Max, and after signing up on this board 8oo-something posts ago, I decided to dub myself Sugarfoot.

Long story to make a short point.:D

Houdini
11-17-2005, 12:31 PM
Houdini is part of my Paint's name. He is my sunshine and a big baby. :D My daughter is also on this board and her name is after her two horses. Great question. Can hardly wait to read all the other posts after this one.

Green Pastures
11-17-2005, 12:37 PM
Well mine is really boring :(

My husband bulldozed and seeded our paddocks when we bought our new home. I became obsessed with wanting the darn grass to grow. I couldn't wait for the "green pastures" to be ready so I could bring our horses home :p

luvmymorgan
11-17-2005, 01:09 PM
Mine is pretty unimaginative. Got my first horse (the love of my life) 5 years ago. Had been around relative’s Quarter Horses, but, believe it or not, had never heard of Morgans before I was introduced to Risty ((registered name Kerry Aristocrat). Love that boy!

Lola

Hes a horse nut too.

Mary R
11-17-2005, 07:33 PM
I'm Mary R, because that's me, Mary R. Not horsey at all, I could be Domino's Mom or Magic's Mom, but no, I chose Mary R. Easier to remember :D

Many bucks
11-17-2005, 07:46 PM
I picked mine to start out as 2 many bucks but then shorten it to many bucks. It comes from 2 things. one I have been bucked off to many times and it take many bucks to own and care for my horses. so thats my story.

Bea's Friend
11-17-2005, 08:00 PM
I have ridden and taken care of a horse named Bea over the last 4 years. I never owned her so I called myself Bea's Friend. I have to think of a new name now because most of you who read my posts know that she was put down in Sept. But for now I can't bring myself to change it, so for now I am still "Bea's Friend" :(
We need a "smilie" that has a teardrop on it's face... but I guess then it wouldn't be a "smilie"... oh well

(un)stablemom
11-17-2005, 08:14 PM
Well, mine comes from the fact that my daughter is the one that rides. When we are at the barn I clean the stall while she is tacking up, I do all sorts of things a stable hand does. Hence the name stablemom. Except, most of the time I am not so stable!
Anyway, I have started riding too and plan to ride more. I have become just as obsessed as my daughter is. I think it is the greatest thing for a mother and daughter to be involved in together. There are times when it is just her and me at the barn and we are talking and brushing Kayos, and I realize how lucky we are. I know these times are precious and take in every minute!

(un)stablemom
11-17-2005, 08:17 PM
Bea's Friend- I don't think you should ever change it. You will always be her friend, and she will always be in your heart.

applewood
11-17-2005, 08:18 PM
Thanks for asking this question, I have wondered many times where everyone got their names.

Mine is for our property in Oregon, where I would rather be any day than here in California :p We bought an old apple orchard that hasn't been touched in 15+ years. It's my piece of heaven and Applewood seems to fit the name of our place. One of these days I would like to find someone who makes wrought iron signs so I can get a sign made for our gate.

Horsespoiler
11-17-2005, 08:27 PM
Well, all of our horses are pampered and spoiled terribly so I am really a "Horse spoiler". They are rarely brats but there are times they act up. :p Mostly they are just our lovebugs.

TwoMedicineKody
11-17-2005, 09:27 PM
I came up with mine from the Two Medicine River and Canyon which is the area of Northern Montana where my home is located. And the name Kody is from my youngest colt.

Ash n Brenna
11-17-2005, 10:40 PM
I guess the reason why I used Brenna for my "handle" is because she is pretty much the first horse that (will be) mine who I am training using my new knowledge after years of not understanding horses like I do now. She is like my new clay, and I hope to shape her into the wonderful horse I know she will be.

She's a Canadienne. I call her my "economy line freisian". She is also slowly helping me restore my confidence in riding and hopefully, eventually, in trail riding. I feel she is my horsey soul mate and that one day we will be able to do anything together.

tabasco
11-17-2005, 11:34 PM
Tabasco is simply the name of our horse....his name fits his personality so well though.

Al's Gal
11-18-2005, 05:19 AM
Al's my horse...not my husband (although I'm my husband's Gal as well! Always will be :D )

Penny
11-18-2005, 06:16 AM
I'm boring....its just my first name. (Though, it seems that everyone I've ever known has owned a sorrell pony named Penny!! :D :p )

Rockies4me
11-18-2005, 06:50 AM
Mines pretty boring. I have Rocky Mtn Horses and I happen to have 4 of them.

annie92499
11-18-2005, 08:28 AM
Mine is because I have a horrible memory. A few years ago mom got me a e-mail and said it should have numbers with a word. So I picked Annie (my cocker spaniel and best friend) and her birthday 92499. I've used that for anything ever since because I don't want to remember anything else. :D

cols
11-18-2005, 10:19 AM
Well, mine is pretty criptic ... you'd prob never guess if I didn't tell you.
OK, that's a lie ... it's actually just what people call me everyday !
Sorry to be so boring !

barngirl
11-18-2005, 11:20 AM
WEll, my favorite place to be is at the barn, and I'm a girl. so barngirl seemed to fit  . Amazingly enough, it wasn't taken, it doesn't seem to be that popular. I use it for everything because I dont want to remember anything else :o

People come,,,,,,people go,,,,,,occosinally,,,,,,,,a name changes...............

Tripledeuce,,,,,,,,the name of our gunsmithing business..............Like Annie,,,,,,,,,,,I forget "names" easly,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and wanted something easy for me to rember.

P is for "Perfect" horse lover. I used to really love the "Perfect Horse" magazine. But now may have to change it to Palamino horse lover, as I am very not happy with Perfect Horse right now.

Happy Horsing,

11-26-2005, 07:54 PM
What fun reading these..Mine is because I own a Rocky Mt. horse and a Tn.walker Both are gaited and I was without a trailer for many years and finally got one so that's the ngoing part...But must say still get very nervous loading them up and going to the park for a day ride as these 2 have just hacked around home not seeing much..Also I might add my first trailer I had ...someone had patched the manger and I didn't know that little fact my Rocky ..Scooter is his name reared up punched thru cut his digital artery as I was moving from Indiana To Tn, found blood everywhere in Ky, so I have been on needles when we haul, but I did go stock which has helped..Him...but I still fear something will happen back there...sound familar..

This is a cool thread!! I haven't had a chance to peruse all the posts, but I'm going to go back and see. Neato!!!

Anyway, my user name is a play on my real name Brenda Costner ...
I'm just B Cos :)

jamoore
01-10-2007, 02:55 PM
Mine was totally lacking in imagination. But I'm glad now that I did since I've changed horses since I joined the board. JAMoore is my user name at work and it just stands for me, Julie Ann Moore.

Glad this thread was bumped! Hope newer members chime in!

Piper
01-10-2007, 03:12 PM
Piper has been my online avatar for the longest time, though sadly, as more and more people join the online community, it's been increasingly difficult to find available.

Ellen Knapp
01-10-2007, 03:18 PM
I'm the most boring of all since I showed absolutely no imagination and used my own name. In truth, I wasn't paying very much attention when I signed up. When I went back to try and change it I was told that I couldn't. So I am simply Ellen Knapp dba Ellen Knapp :p

nayray
01-10-2007, 04:56 PM
my name is my maiden name backwards my maiden name is yaryan just how it is spelled :D I used this on many sites in some form or another :)

Pat
01-11-2007, 09:20 PM
Awww, you all have such cute & creative names here. Drat.
When I was on the "old" board I had a different name, used my horse's name. She died right around the time the board switched & I just didn't want to use her name again, I was too sad. And, at work I have to use 4 different ID/password combinations to log into my computer programs (I work for the State - high tech security you know, our adoption records are super sealed!), and at home we have this password protected, and all our online banking stuff has passwords & ID's......you know, I just didn't want to have to remember who I'm supposed to be! So, I'm ME! Pat. Simple, incredibly boring, horrible first name for a girl but if you call me Patricia I'll think you're mad at me. (Thanks Mom for that conditioned response to my true first name!) There you have it. I needed a name I'd remember :)

Navi
01-11-2007, 09:42 PM
Navi is my 21 year old leopard appaloosa. Its a pretty unique name so I find its usually available. ;)

Maui's Mom
01-11-2007, 10:27 PM
Maui is the name my 5 y/o mare. So I'm her "mom". She has had a colt since I signed on, hence I am Cupid's mom too. They are both Paints.

Tegg
01-12-2007, 07:42 AM
Neat thread! Tegg was a spur of the moment choice. T=first letter of my first name Terri. Egg is 1) The Ukraines are known for those beautiful painted eggs and I'm (part) Ukrainian. 2) egg is also within my maiden name.

My more common screen name (since we're on the subject LOL) found on all other boards is Tia2. "Tia" is the name of a Kitty I had from the 2nd day she was born. I found her sister "Tamara" a home..but I nursed them both from the very beginning. They were both beautiful jet black. Tia went to the rainbow bridge in 05 at 16yrs old.

Why did I change screen names for this forum? I think at the time I wanted something different. ;)

Mary from MN
01-12-2007, 09:03 AM
As you can see I am not very creative! My first choice was for MaryB but of course that was taken. ;) Hi Mary!! It turned out for the best anyway, cuz I am now MaryK. On another board I am OneHorseRanch, but I am hoping that will change to TwoHorseRanch this summer :)

ShadowfaX
01-12-2007, 10:20 AM
Shadowfax for many reasons.

1) I began using the name during my discovery of Lord of the Rings. I even went to the lengths fo learning a little elvish and nameing my dogs Merri and Pippin.

I wanted a name that reflected both of my favorite things horses and LOTR.

2) shadowfax, in the story is a rather odd color. He is light colored in the daylight and dark as shadow in the night. I have a personality that is similar. On the outside I seem maybe quiet, not friendly, sometimes even mean. (in person)
But that shell hides something that those who become close to me discover is anything but. :) I have a shadowed past but a bright future. :D

I use the same username on all of the boards I am a member of except one or two. On Dog.com I am Melleth, my elvish name, on HGS I am Asfaloth, the horse that was ridden by the elf that resued Frodo from the ring wraiths.

rmccd47
01-12-2007, 02:56 PM
mine is nothing horse related. It is a private joke between my brother and me about our teenage years. I use it on all the things I do on web. Because with my last computer I had several different names and passwords. I got so confused as to what one went where. That when I moved and got a new computer I changed everything to just that one.
