Does anyone want to play a 'bored' game or something ?

I'm with you Cols. My boss is gone today and the owner is in a warmer state for the week and it is just way to quiet in the office today. What do you have in mind?
I dunno. We could hang ourselves.

12-28-2005, 02:47 PM
You know this is almost worse than just surfing the net. If I have someone to talk to then I'm really not going to get anything done today. Not that I have really accomplished a lot to begin with but at least I look like I'm working
Sorry, I went all "Waiting for Godot" on you there.
I know, I have work to do. I just don't want to do it.
I'll pack it all home and not do it there.
Tuff e Nuff

That is one of the nice things about where I work. It is too difficult to take work home. Fortunately we are not at our "peak" busy time right now so I can mess around a little bit and not get behind to much. Oh well, I'll make up these hours when we are busy I'm sure.
Tuff e Nuff
12-28-2005, 02:54 PM
You do realize how pitiful this is don’t you Cols.
My feelings exactly. There are times when I have to get 12 hours worth of work done in 8. Sometimes I have a lot of "stress". So, I don't feel bad about this stuff when it is not so busy for me.
There is always something to do, but I don't think it's good to go, go, go all the time.

12-28-2005, 02:56 PM
Is it just me or is time going backwards??? Most of our clients are union and are off this week. I'm sure there is something I can be doing. BUT, I really can't seem to get to doing it. I keep getting busted surfing the net, and nobody seems to care...

What is really bad is that I have almost got it down to a science today. Check the JL board, Check the Pete Ramey discussion on the shoeing board, check my e-mail and then back to the JL board. Oh I just haven't had the drive to do anything this week at work or at home. I want to be were it is warm. Drinking margaritas. Hey, I wonder if Dee is having fun.
Oh, that sounds good !
Laying on a beach somewhere ... I think I'll go right now ..............

Ok come on now. Messing around on the computer at work is one thing but day dreaming is another. Just out of curiosity what type of work do you do that allows you this much free time?
I am the front store manager/buyer/ merchandise manager for a drug store.
YOU ??
OregonLadyGirl
12-28-2005, 03:15 PM
mmmm Margaritas....
Having a bad pain day, and the dang flourescent lights are KILLING ME!!! I'm cruising the board, my email, myspace, even found out I have a class reunion coming up! lol
Can't wait to go play with horses! hmmm I think I could take a yard stick and cut a horse head out of cardboard and ride around the office! :D
ooohhh...good idea !
Problem is, here, no one would even notice.
They are so used to how weird I am.
OregonLadyGirl
12-28-2005, 03:22 PM
Same here. Oh wait! We have a "real" stick horse from our Friday parades. There use to be a girl here that would wear a plastic cowboy hat and ride a stick horse and a guy that would wear a coconut bikini top and run around the block. And our office is downtown...
I'm suprised the cops never came...

manager for a drug store.
I think I could find better things to do than surfing the net if I worked in a drug store! Just kidding – well maybe.
I work for a custom home builder. We build homes that cost more than I will make in my lifetime to people younger than me (and I'm only 28.) I help the 2 designers and I also do all of the lighting selections for the homes. On top of that I manage the warranty department. Apparently everyone is out of town and no one has anything to complain about today. I can't believe it, no one wants me to come out and replace their batteries under our warranty today. :D
 OK, that's pretty weird !!!!!
Sounds like a fun place to work.
Isn't sad about Shannon's beautiful appy ?
I can't believe it, no one wants me to come out and replace their batteries under our warranty today.
Hee Hee
I know that story.
My husband is a major appliance service tech.

You wouldn' t (or maybe you would) believe the calls they get !
Tuff e Nuff
12-28-2005, 03:28 PM
Oh you would be amazed at what people think the builder should cover in their warranty. "No that red kool-aid stain was on the carpet when we moved in. Our kid's didn't do it." Yeah right.
That was so sad to read. I couldn't imagine having to go through something like that.
I know.
It was so gracious of her to post all those wonderful pictures.

You wouldn’t (or maybe you would) believe the calls they get !
Yes I can. Do you know how many phone calls I get because it takes their oven 20 minutes to pre-heat? How do I expect them to cook? I don't. Most of them don't anyways and for those that do - hey, they picked their appliances not me.
Hey OregonLadyGirl feel free to jump back in her anytime. What type of work has you so busy that you are able to play with us right now?
He was so pretty. I lost one horse and swore I would never go through that again. I don't know what I will do when Tuff gets older.
I've never been through it.
I don't know how I'll handle it either.
The worst part is that I keep saying I *should* prepare and I never do.
I should at least have a plan.

Hey there again...
I work for a software company...
I direct tech support calls. Prreeettttyyyyy slow. I can't imagine that nobody's software isn't broke. We get some bizarre calls too. Like, where's the F1 button at?? Patience is a virtue.
I love the pics Shannon posted. I'm glad she shared.

12-28-2005, 03:44 PM
I don't think you could ever be prepared or fully have a plan. I think we look at our horses just the same as we do our family members. Even if a family member tells you not to keep them on life support we still want to keep them with us as long as we can. I think the same holds true for our horses. I told my husband I would mortgage the house if I had to just to do what I could to keep Tuff with me as long as I could (this was when we thought she was going to require surgery.) She has been so much a part of my life and she has changed me in so many ways that I cry just at the thought of losing her. I am just going to have to cross that bridge when it comes and hopefully it will be a long time from now.

hmmm... I just watched that moving The 6th Day. And they had that pet cloning facility (can't remember what it was called now). Kinda weird to think about.
There was a break in the weather, had to go for a walk before it down poured again... ;)
I meant "prepared" as in .... deciding if we are going to bury or ????
Last summer there was a back hoe working up the road and I told Geoff we should get it to come down and dig a hole so we can be prepared. I thought it was a great idea. We could use it as a burn pit and then, if we "need" it, it'll be there. He thought is was a grim idea and wouldn't hear of it.

Oh, sorry for the misunderstanding. Last time I checked unless it was in a pet cemetery it is very illegal to bury an animal on your property. I am sure people do it all of the time though.
As you can tell, I am back and bored again.

Where in the heck did she go? Oh wait, this thread was started yesterday....ah, the story of my life...a day late and a dollar short. :)
If you're interested in what I do....
My title is Sales and Marketing Assistant, and basically I do whatever the VPs of Sales and Marketing need for me to do. That might mean updating our customer database, or creating a new marketing campaign. Fun stuff...but they both have been on vacation all week and no one else here has anything for me to do.
So, what can we talk about?????????????????????
OregonLadyGirl
12-29-2005, 09:53 AM
OMG!!! You guys are gonna be so jealous. I had something to do, for about 2 minutes... I had to go make 2 pots of coffee!!! WOO HOO!!!
I have a very grey area of a job. I am on phones in the morning and direct tech support calls, then I am in admin in the afternoons. I do all the grey area jobs that the managers don't want to do for every department. It's fun, different every day.
But, like you guys - they are all on vacation this week.

That is not a grey job that is a rainbow job. You have a little bit of everything to do. :) Jack of all trades.
spotteddrafter - I did marketing before I came into this job. I loved it. I loved dong Power Point presentations. When I was bored I would make up jeopardy games in power point to play later.
So does anyone actually have any plans this weekend? Sunday we have Christmas with Hubby’s side of the family. I am hoping that we can keep the fighting to a minimal amount this year. I get to see Tuff. I haven’t seen her for a while and I miss her. Hopefully she is feeling up to a quick ride as I think the weather is supposed to be decent. Knowing my luck she’ll probably be feeling good enough to buck my butt off. Let’s hope not.

I am saying goodbye to June tomorrow (my little problem child). She will only be a mile from parents house where the rest of my horses are, so I will get to see and work with her whenever I am up there (about 50 miles away). And my Lady is coming into "town" with me.
Friday night we're having a birthday party for my fiance. His birthday was yesterday. He's never had a birthday party in his life. So... I thought it would be fun.
Then play with Lady all weekend. I have the same hope as you Tuff, I hope she feels good enough to ride, but not spunky enough to lose me.
OH!! And I'm getting a "new" english saddle tomorrow. :p

12-29-2005, 10:13 AM
Tuff, I don't use Power Point much, except if someone needs some slides made for a presentation. I mainly use PageMaker, Publisher and Quark. I have a Bachelors in Marketing, and it's nice to actually use my education!
As for my weekend....nothing planned that I know of right now. I got really sick Christmas Eve and Christmas day, and still don't feel quite right...so I think it'll be really low key. We have a 15-mo old son, so it's not like we'll be partying it up, like I ever did any of that anyway.
I see Jetta every day, twice a day....even though I board her, I still stop and feed her both times, and I have to clean my stall every day as well. It's been doing nothing but rain and snow every day this week, so the trails are all crap. If I get the chance to ride this weekend, I'm sure it'll be too muddy out on trails, and who wants to ride around the arena endlessly? :(

I have an Associates in Engineering (computer aided drafting). Not much use to me right now. I was working 50+ hours a week when I was 19, and was completely burnt by the time I was 21.
Not much of a partier myself, bedtime is 9:30pm.
You guys have any favorite tv shows? With little ones I'm sure you don't get to watch a lot of tv. My favorites are Bones, House, and I hate to say it... Desperate Housewives.
Nice to see you guys are still chatting and keeping each other company !
I am home today !!!
Last time I checked unless it was in a pet cemetery it is very illegal to bury an animal on your property.
Actually, it is perfectly legal to bury a horse out here where I live !

I'm officially jumping in. :D
I have work to do but I'm ignoring it. Half the company is on vacation this week. Why should the rest of us have to work? :p
What do I do? I do statutory and compliance accounting for a life insurance compan..........szzzzzz.......szzzzzz........wha? Oh yeah......I'm an accountant.
Right now I'm supposed to be compiling some documentation for premium filings we made in another state for our legal department but I can't possibly see why they would need that information before next week.....c'mon...it's the holidays.
Favorite TV shows. Missing, Medium, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Family Guy, South Park, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

12-29-2005, 10:38 AM
Well as for education.....I kind of don't talk about that one much. I went to college and did very well and now I don't use it for anything that has anything to do with my job or the jobs that I have had since 1995. My parents aren't really thrilled about the fact that they paid for me to go to college and get a degree and I'm not using it in the "Real World."
As for TV shows. I don't watch a lot of TV except for in the winter but I do like to watch
CSI - all of them
Medium
Crossing Jordan
Hello my Name is Earl when I do actually get a chance to sit down and watch a show.

It's all football talk in the office today. I kinda know what's going on. I know there's a bowl game today. And I know I won't be out driving around tonight after the game, win or lose. I can talk the talk when need be. lol
Cindi - I'm with ya. Can't everything wait until next year?? Why now? I don't see why. lol

I think my main goal for the day is to UN decorate the office. How long do you guys leave up your Christmas ornaments??
Tuff e Nuff
12-29-2005, 11:41 AM
Ours came down Tuesday 1st thing. I just wish the guys in the back would finish up all of the food. Chocolate and boredom don't go well together. My horses are going to hate me after the holidays if I don't quit eating.
Cindi
12-29-2005, 11:42 AM
Technically, I can go home if I want to but I won't get paid so I better stick around. Horses aren't cheap.
We usually leave up our Christmas decorations until after the 1st.
I think someone asked earlier what everyone's doing for New Year's Eve. We're going over to our friends' house, making a pot of chili and drinking some cocktails. We don't want to brave the roads after midnight with all the idiots so we're spending the night and making brunch in the morning. Probably eggs benedict with mimosas to drink. Yummy!
Cindi
12-29-2005, 11:45 AM
Tell me about the eating!!!
After Christmas is the worst because everyone brings in all the food they got as gifts and don't want to eat themselves. There is food everywhere around here. I never thought I say this but I'm actually getting tired of chocolate covered cashews!!!

My downfall is carmel corn this week. We had (had being a key word) a big tin of different flavored popcorns, BAD BAD thing. And the fudge, peanut brittle, cookies...
I think we'll leave ours up until Sunday. If we go anywhere for New Year's I'm always the DD, but that doesn't make us safe from other drivers.
That sounds like fun Cindi! Who knows where we'll end up this year. Adventures and decisions...

My Christmas tree (at home not at work) came down Monday. I was sick of it. I wanted my living room put back together. The puppy was also a good reason to take it down. I need to post pics of the tree. I made hubby put it up and decorate it this year. Needless to say I think it had 14 ornaments and 1 strand of lights. At least it was up though I guess. I'm sick of chocolate. I want salty chips and popcorn now.
OregonLadyGirl
12-29-2005, 12:01 PM
We get a blue spruce tree, it's kinda prickly. Our dog likes to remove the ornaments. She will delicately grab them with her teeth and take them off. Well, not since we got the spruce! I have to wear gloves to decorate it. My man likes to sit and suprevise. Our new house has vaulted ceilings, so he got a 30 ft. tree and then cut the top 10 ft. of it. It was too funny. :p I'm tired of needles on the floor. Ready for it to go back to nature...
Hmmm Cheez-it's sound fabulous.

Our house is small and we have to move 1/2 of the furniture out of the living room just to make room for the tree (we bought it when we lived in ou bigger house.) The cat and dog don't bother it to much anymore but I wanted my living room back. I have been in one of those spring cleaning get rid of all of this junk mood and so I wanted to get it put up and things put back right away.
Cindi you can watch TV with my hubby. He love South Park and The Family Guy. I can't quite get with the program on those shows.

Sara - I just love that pic! You can see all of your babies muscles! I took an equine massage course a couple of months ago so I'm calling off all your babies muscles as I look at that pic.
It's very educational. :p
Actually, I'm quite serious, most older horses, unless they're in really good shape, have a layer of fat over their muscles (like most of us  ) and the muscle definition isn't always so apparent. It's nice to see all those muscles on a "real" horse as opposed to a drawing.
Thanks for posting that. :)

My sister-in-law just sent me this. After I stopped laughing, I had to admit that being bored is not the worst thing that could happen. I could have been this poor guy.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is even funnier when you realize it's real! Next time you have a
> bad day at work, think of this guy.
>
> Rob is a commercial saturation diver for Global Divers in Louisiana.
> He performs underwater repairs on offshore drilling rigs. Below is an
> E-mail he sent to his sister.
>
> She then sent it to radio station 103.2 FM in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, who
> was sponsoring a worst job experience contest. Needless to say, she
> won.
>
> Hi Sue,
>
> Just another note from your bottom-dwelling brother. Last week I had a
> bad day at the office. I know you've been feeling down lately at work,
> So I thought I would share my dilemma with you to make you realize
> it's not so bad after all.
>
> Before I can tell you what happened to me, I first must bore you with
> a few technicalities of my job. As you know, my office lies at the
> bottom of the sea. I wear a suit to the office. It's a wetsuit.
>
> This time of year the water is quite cool. So what we do to keep warm
> is this: We have a diesel powered industrial water heater. This $20,000
> piece of equipment sucks the water out of the sea. It heats it to a
> delightful temperature. It then pumps it down to the diver through a
> garden hose, which is taped to the air hose.
>
> Now this sounds like a pretty good plan, and I've used it several
> times with no complaints. What I do, when I get to the bottom and
> start working, is take the hose and stuff it down the back of my
> wetsuit. This floods my whole suit with warm water. It's like working
> in a Jacuzzi.
>
> Everything was going well until all of a sudden, my bum started to
> itch. So, of course, I scratched it. This only made things worse.
> Within a few seconds my bum started to burn. I pulled the hose out
> from my back, but the damage was done. In agony I realized what had
> happened. The hot water machine had sucked up a jellyfish and pumped
> it into my suit. Now, since I don't have any hair on my back, the
> jellyfish couldn't stick to it. However, the crack of my bum was not
> as fortunate. When I scratched what I thought was an itch, I was
> actually grinding the jellyfish into the crack of my bum.
>
> I informed the dive supervisor of my dilemma over the communicator.
> His instructions were unclear due to the fact that he, along with five
> other divers, were all laughing hysterically. Needless to say I
> aborted the dive.
>
> I was instructed to make three agonizing in-water decompression stops
> totaling thirty-five minutes before I could reach the surface to begin
> my chamber dry decompression. When I arrived at the surface, I was
> wearing nothing but my brass helmet. As I climbed out of the water,
> the medic, with tears of laughter running down his face, handed me a
> tube of cream and told me to rub it on my bum as soon as I got in the
> chamber. The cream put the fire out, but I couldn't poop for two days
> because my bum was swollen shut.
> So, next time you're having a bad day at work, think about how much
> worse it would be if you had a jellyfish shoved up your bum. Now
> repeat to yourself, "I love my job, I love my job, I love my job."
 OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have nothing else to say.

Hey it lasted 20 minutes (for this thread anyways.) :D Ah Cols, you know we wouldn't know what to do if you were speechless.
Hee Hee. I know, I'm such a big mouth. Ah, well, that's me ... like it or not. LOL

Oh Cols, sorry you're not feeling well. :( Be sure and eat something when you take the pills. I found out the hard way if you don't, you throw up. No good to be throwing up when your back hurts. I ended up just keeping some granola bars by the bed and at my desk so I had something there when it was time for a pill. That way I didn't have to go search for something to eat or fix it.
Yup, I have been really good about that.
Geoff was making us tea with grated ginger in it all weekend. Maybe that's what helped. It's a natural antinauseant and antinflamitory.
So, I just went and grabbed some Gravol ginger chews off the shelf. I hope it helps. Oh, and some ginger ale. .. oh, and maybe some probiotics ... I guess I better pay for some of this stuff eventually.
Oh, look ... the new Horse and Rider with the barefoot article in it. ;)

Lets find all the things that could be worst then being bored :D This one is along the lines of Appy Trails bad day story. Susposedly this is a true event that happened in Australia. This man was in an accident (work accident, not car accident), so he filled out an insurance claim. The insurance company contacted him and asked for more information. This was his response:
------------------------------------------------------------------
I am writing in response to your request for additional information for block number 3 of the accident reporting form. I put 'poor planning' as the cause of my accident. You said in your letter that I should explain more fully and I trust the following detail will be sufficient. I am an amateur radio operator and on the day of the accident, I was working alone on the top section of my new 80 foot tower. When I had completed my work, I discovered that I had, over the course of several trips up the tower, brought up about 300 pounds of tools and spare hardware. Rather than carry the now un-needed tools and material down by hand, I decided to lower the items down in a small barrel by using a pulley, which was fortunately attached to the gin pole at the top of the tower. Securing the rope at ground level, I went to the top of the tower and loaded the tools and material into the barrel. Then I went back to the ground and untied the rope, holding it tightly to ensure a slow descent of the 300 pounds of tools. You will note in block number 11 of the accident reporting form that I weigh only 155 pounds. Due to my surprise of being jerked off the ground so suddenly, I lost my presence of mind and forgot to let go of the rope. Needless to say, I proceeded at a rather rapid rate of speed up the side of the tower. In the vicinity of the 40 foot level, I met the barrel coming down. This explains my fractured skull and broken collarbone. Slowed only slightly, I continued my rapid ascent, not stopping until the fingers of my right hand were two knuckles deep into the pulley.
Fortunately, by this time, I had regained my presence of mind and was able to hold onto the rope in spite of my pain. At approximately the same time, however, the barrel of tools hit the ground and the bottom fell out of the barrel. Devoid of the weight of the tools, the barrel now weighed approximately 20 pounds. I refer you again to my weight in block number 11. As you might imagine, I began a rapid descent down the side of the tower. In the vicinity of the 40 foot level, I met the barrel coming up. This accounts for the two fractured ankles, and the lacerations of my legs and lower body. The encounter with the barrel slowed me enough to lessen my injuries when I fell onto the pile of tools and, fortunately, only three vertebrae were cracked. I am sorry to report, however, that as I lay there on the tools, in pain, unable to stand and watching the empty barrel 80 feet above me, I again lost my presence of mind. I let go of the rope . . .

So, here are some jokes for you! (add some more!!!)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Three recent college graduates went to Mexico to celebrate. They wake up with no memory of events, but find they are in jail and scheduled to be executed that morning.
The first is a stunning brunette, and she declares, "I have just graduated from Brigham Young University! I believe in the power of God, and that nothing bad can happen to me!"
They strap her into the electric chair, but when they throw the switch, sure enough, nothing happens! The authorities are impressed, and set her free.
The second is a green-eyed red head. As they strap her into the electric chair, she declares, "I have just graduated from Harvard Law, and I believe in the power of justice. Nothing bad will happen to me!"
And sure enough, nothing does, for when the switch is thrown on the electric chair, nothing happens and she, too, is released.
The third is a buxom blonde {you were waiting for this, right?}. As they strap her into the electric chair, she giggles,
"I've just graduated from MIT with a degree in electrical engineering, and I can tell you, if you don't plug this thing in, you ain't gonna zap nobody!"

BLONDE JOKE # 3,297,842
Three Blondes were all applying for the last available
position on the Texas Highway Patrol. The detective conducting the
interview looked at the three of them and said, "So y'all want to be
cops,
huh?"
The blondes all nodded.
The detective got up, opened a file drawer and pulled out a
folder. Sitting back down, he opened it and pulled out a picture, and
said, "To be a detective, you have to be able to detect. You must be
able to notice things such as distinguishing features and oddities such
as scars and so forth"
So saying, he stuck the photo in the face of the first blonde and withdrew it
after about two seconds. "Now," he said, "did you notice any distinguishing
features about this man?" The blonde immediately said, "Yes, I did. He has only one eye!"
The detective shook his head and said, "Of course he has only
one eye in this picture! It's a profile of his face! You're dismissed!"
The first blonde hung her head and walked out of the office.
The detective then turned to the second blonde, stuck the photo in her
face for two seconds, pulled it back and said, "What about you? Notice
anything unusual or outstanding about this man?" "Yes! He only has one
ear!"
The detective put his head in his hands and exclaimed, "Didn't
you hear what I just told the other lady? This is a profile of the
man's face! Of course you can only see one ear!! You're excused too!"
The second blonde sheepishly walked out of the office.
The detective turned his attention to the third and last blonde and said,
"This is probably a waste of time, but . . "He flashed
the photo in her face for a couple of seconds and withdrew it, saying,
"All right, did you notice anything distinguishing or unusual about this
man?"
The blonde said, "I sure did. This man wears contact lenses."
The detective frowned, took another look at the picture and
began looking at some of the papers in the folder. He looked up at the
blonde with a puzzled expression and said, "You're absolutely right!
His bio says he wears contacts! How in the world could you tell that by
looking at his picture?"
The blonde rolled her eyes and said, "Well, Helloooo! With
only one eye and one ear, he certainly can't wear glasses."
Oh boy! Those are great! :D

OMG! LOVED the jokes!!! How did you know I was blonde and love blonde jokes?? I'll share my two favorites:
A blonde is at home watchine tv when her house catches on fire. She's frantic! She calls the fire department and screams "You gotta help me! My house is on fire!".
The man from the fire department says "OK ma'am, calm down. How do we get there?"
The blonde replies "D'uh! Big Red Truck!" :p
A blonde goes into the doctor with 3rd degree burns on both of her ears. The doctor is perplexed, so he asks her "Do you have any idea would could've caused these burns?"
The blonde thinks for a moment and then says "Oh yeah! I was ironing... and the phone rang... and I picked up the iron instead of the phone".
The doctor is a little blown away at this and says "OK, that explains one ear. What happened to the other?"
The blonde says "The son of a gun called back!"
hehehe :D
