Just as fun as SP! I got these in the mail today and couldn't wait to open them. Almost burnt dinner while I was scanning them..I kept staring at them and forgot what I was doing :o

He sure is one handsome boy! And we get to see "Evanders Challenge" nice to put another face with a name and their horse :)

Enjoy! :D

If anyone has a very simple explanation, he would love a pic resized to attach as his avatar. I messed up mine and I cannot do his anyways..so maybe someone a little better than I could help Ned...

Thanks
Sue

Hi Sue, Thank You for posting Evander's pictures! :) This is exciting. He is a beautiful Thoroughbred! He has a wonderful personality as well. :D I am proud of him, especially how he is extra gentle with little children, and to see the fear on their faces melt away after Evander tickles their fingers, with his muzzle! :) When it is our rainy season this arena is very muddy and the footing is bad. On days like those, we lunge our horses in the drive way, or on the side of the barn. The day I photographed Evander was a nice warm day. :) All of you are welcome to come out and visit Evander and I. I can not ride yet because the doctor said my wrist is not completely healed yet, all I can do is turn him out and groom him. Evander's trainer said he was great to ride yesterday! She is so proud of him as I am. Folks at Evander's barn have been so nice to chip in and help care for him while I have been recovering from this abscess infection. It is much smaller today, and healing nicely. Please continue to pray! Thank You!

Thanks for those pics Ned. Is that what a REAL horse looks like? Jeez you'd probably laugh at my guys, they are nothing but hairballs, even in the summer months I don't clipper them except the bridle paths. They have long feathers and whiskers. Our summers are so short and it takes a long time for everything to grow back out!

Evanders Challenge definately looks like that Regal Winner he is. ;)

It's my pleasure to hold you up before the lord, he is such a wonderful physician.

I was teased about not shaving Evander, and the gals at the barn offered their services! :D I said Nah! Cold weather will be upon us and your horses will freeze when you take their blankets off them. This past week they said ok Ned you can say I told you so! My response was: Listen to this old groom, I know a couple of things. I want Evander to be natural. He is shedding right now. Saddle wax. Cute! Oh I will be at the barn to meet you! :D

What? Evander sheds anymore he'll be hairless :D
Matt and I rode today, and he didn't want to drag out his saddle. We curried first but as Matt was riding, the motion of his butt on Boomers back was a natural curry. When he got off there was a big butt shaped hairball!
I can't wait till we hit 70 and I can give the boys that first wash! In Wy we only get to wash our guys from June thru sept!

As a matter of fact, Evander has some hair left! I would be happy to send you some! :D These past two days have been in the 80's! Today we are in the lower 70's. Our hot weather out here lasts a long time. Usually from July thought October. We also get some hot weather in March, April and May. We have what is called June Gloom where the ocean breezes cool us off and we get fog, and overcast days.
How did your ride go?

Evander gets his humor from the other horses in the barn. I can not imagine Evander getting his humor from his dad! :D Evander gets ridden twice a week, gets lunged twice a week, and classroom and turnouts 3 times a week. He is a busy boy. I have been keeping an eye on his weight. Evander just had his 6 month exam and everything is fine. Evander would make a good Dressage Horse. He loves to jump!

The ride was wonderful! Thanks Ned...beautiful weather, almost 60! Thats like 90 in California :D Matt and I rode over 2 hours up on the plains but he was ready to go back, since he was riding bareback and it's been awhile, his legs were aching.

Today did hit 60 and just as calm and nice. My face got a bit of sun both days :p I wormed today, and then worked on a seperate corral so we could section off Frisco, he's picking on Boomer. BAD FRISCO! Boomer is glad Frisco is spending the next couple days in solitary confinement
Any idea how to make him play nice?

Evander has a toy apple he shares with Max, the thoroughbred next door! This toy has an apple treat that both horses share. For the most part they play nice. Sometimes they play hard. Evander has a regal attitude sometimes and that is when he gets bitten and tries to play bite his neighbor. One thing put bars up between their stalls. They can see each other, but not bite one another. This has worked for Evander.
Your two hour ride sounds wonderful! It is so nice to see the weather getting better! Today we have a clinic at the barn. Middle Ranch has European trainers in: Hunter Jumper, and Grand Prix Dressage. Lars is a famious award winning Dressage champion and trainer who will be conducting this clinic. Kathy has baked 2 cakes for the pot luck lunch. Chocolate and Coconut. Kathy's attitude has changed back to "I can take or leave horses, mostly leave." Now she does not care how much time she spends with Evander. :( Oh well. I have prayed about this and ask for prayers that Kathy will care about Evander.

Yesterday, hubby finally got to watch the horses play with their cones and jolly balls. He thought they were hillarious. I've seen the apple toys with the treats, but haven't bought one. Anything hanging up, gets tore down
My guys are so rough on things. They play hard too. It snowed last night, not much stuck, but we had really hard snowfall and wind for most of the morning. Lucky not much is left as it got up to low 40's but that wind is awful right now. We are suppose to have nasty weather atleast through next weekend.

Yes they are just playing :D

Hi Denise, How is your husband feeling? Thank You for sharing this photo! Nice photo! In your photo who is who? Are all your boys mustangs? We are expecting 2 to 3 inches of rain this Tuesday. When this happens the arenas and trails are not ridable. The apple may get torn down, if the two share it, it would make for some interesting photos!

Glenn is actually feeling good! I'm not surprised, I've got great people standing in prayer with me :D
Yes, the snow, even though it didn't stick still makes things sloppy AGAIN!
Buddy is the Dapple grey and Frisco is the tall sorrel, he was only 16hh there, now he is 17.1. They are all mustangs except Mikey, who is a pure Belgian Draft. I don't consider him mine though...he's Matt's.
Let me see if I have a pic of Chipawa, my problem child! He's the one I've been working with the last month. His flight instinct is really high, and he decided he was absolutely not going into the trailer. Maybe he knew how mad I was at him, and was afraid I was taking him back to the BLM! :D

Beautiful Mustangs! I love them!! Makes one want to come over and give them a big hug! , :) How many Mustangs do you have? Do you usually get the rain we get here in Southern Calif.? Tonight and tomorrow we are going to get hit with two to 3 inches of rain. I had to build a burm with Evander's help of course, to keep the stalls from flooding. Evander will put his nose down after I put a shovel full of dirt down on the edge of his stall, sniff the dirt to check it out. Sometimes Evander will put his stamp of approval on the work being done. Today Evander was turned out after hard work yesterday. Evander followed his dad around and helped him locate large rocks. Wanted to do this before someone wanted to use the jumps. Deep draging brings out the larger rocks.
Lord Bless You,

Most of our water level is acheived through melting snow from the mountains. Wy gets very little rain, usually. If it rains, it is usually before it turns to snow.
My mustangs, all 4 are overly friendly. They don't want to leave you alone, you have to smack them down with big sticks! LOL just kidding, but they are people friendly, to the point where they can be overbearing for a non horsey person.
Glenn can't believe how well he feels, I told mom today, it's because of all the prayer.

The last few days Chipawa has become a butt, LITERALLY! I get the poop fork and wheel barrow out, feed them so I can clean up in peace but he continues to come over, turn around and back up to me, till he bumps me. He has this thing for the poop fork. When you scratch his butt he rests one foot so the side you're scrathing (with the poop fork) is higher. Then he backs up further so he can guide the poop fork up by the whithers, and back till the fork is scratchin his upper neck. The upper neck area is hard cause the poop fork doesn't want to slide up and down. I'm in training, I'm sure I'll figure it out :D It's really funny when you do the whither area b/c he sticks his lips up in the air...OOOOH YEAH

I've never seen more jealous horses. Chip hates for anyone to get to go for a ride but him...Boomer pouts if we ignore him and sometimes he doesn't forgive for days. Horses are such hams.
We saw an older guy and his mule on Pet stars...so cute, he had the mule lay down for bedtime and covered him up with a sheet. He laid down next to him and covered himself with some of the sheet. The mule would reach down and pull the sheet off the guy and up to the mules neck. Did you see it?

Unfortunately I didn't. Have you seen the one on Patches the horse that sat in the back of a make shift convertable? His owner even drove with Patches in the back seat to a drive through. I can not see Evander doing that gig, being a Thoroughbred. It would turn some heads and cause a few traffic jams! Boomer does not forgive you for days? I would go into Boomer's stall and hang out with him, talk to him, hug him and make up! :D Bribes always helps! Oh Patches does the samething, he goes into the bed room lays down and and has a sheet pulled over him. You are so right, horses are hams!

Boomer will eat the treats and still give you the cold shoulder, the only thing that takes the crabbiness out is to take him for a walk, and let him eat the prairie grass and bushes. A nice long walk gives him a much better attitude. :D
I wonder how they get the horse into the convertable? Must have big doors.

Evander has a new neighbor. A 26 year old quarter horse named Checkers. Checkers has a good owner I am happy to say! Oh the pecking order and Evander with his challenge winnies! The horses have been together a week now and Evander tollerates Checkers. Evander liked a BLM Mustang named Mustang Sally. Oh did he like her! Mustang Sally moved to the barn across the road. Now he likes likes a Thoroughbred mare named Zoey. They are about the same age, and Zoey is a bay. Evander lets me hang out with some horses and not others.
Evander has a list of folks from our barn who want to ride him. I said only dad and his trainer for now. Later on children. Evander is very gentle with children.
It has taken almost two years to train Evander to be the horse he is today. Believe me it is well worth it. Thoroughbreds may have more health issues and are not as hardy as say Mustangs. If you know how to care for them, they can be. There are many reasons why OTTB's do not find good homes. One reason is their injuries from the track. Bowed tendons, etc. There are many OTTB's that need time to train to become good pleasure horses. We are talking a year or two. This is why many of them do not find good homes, and wind up at slaughter houses.
Evander has been doing very well learning the Dressage disipline. In my opinion if you know Dressage this will help you out on some situations on the trail.

Guess what...a house down the road from me just adopted 2 OTTB from the rescue I visited a while back. A local cable company is doing a story on the rescue and I volunteered to help get the farm looking spic and span. Weedeating, painting buildings ect. We are invited when they do the filming but I will decline..not good on camera. Very excited about the rescue getting televised airtime..I hope it leads to many adoptions. I know the rescues have their hands full. I will keep you updated on it.

I definately will give Evander a Big Hug. That is great news! Kathy and I have been doing some volunteer weeding at our barn. The hillsides needs to be worked on as well as the front. Take some photos so we can see these OTTB's, and the barn you are helping to fix up. I hope both the OTTB's and their owners will be a good fit. :)
Thank You for helping to get this barn spic and span! That is so nice of you. After you are done there, you are welcome to come out here and help Evander and I paint the walls of his stall. :D Keep us posted on how things are progressing.
