Hi guys,

I just came up with this wacky idea of spending more leisure time with "horses" - I'd like to put together a calendar of horse pictures from here on the JL board, since there's been so many good ones put on here. The recent ones from UnstableMom have really inspired me...

So two questions - if you have a photo you'd like to have in the calendar of one (or more) of your horses, email it to me, and if you'd like to have a calendar to send to your SP, let me know. I'd just charge production cost and shipping, and production cost (basically my supplies to put the thing together) shouldn't be too high. I'll do a prototype first to let you know how much it would be and so people can see what it would look like.

I thought this would be a neat way to showcase some of the photography talent and beautiful horses here on the board- what do you think?

If I get really sophisticated at this  I'll try to customize the calendars so that the calendar you get is sure to have your horse's picture in it, I'm guessing I'm going to get more than 12 wonderful pictures :)

If we e-mail them through JL, they will be resized. Would you like the originals? where should we send them?

oh, yuck, didn't realize that even the email through JL required resizing. email them to me at brendacostner@hotmail.com

Thanks!

What a great idea! I don't if I have a decent picture of my horse(s) to send.

How much time do we have to send a picture?

Probably awhile :) With work, kids, a horse, and soccer practice, I won't get this turned around overnight! And if it takes you awhile to come up with that one great shot, I could probably do another one for you when you get it.

Why not get all the pics people want to "send in",then post them, small size,on the board,,,,,,,,then, let the board vote on which pics, for what months????????

I can try to do that - depending on how many "entries" I get, otherwise the administration of that could get a little hairy

I love this idea! I've not posted any pictures of our horses yet, only because I don't know how, but I do have a very cool picture of three of them, in a mist of fog, with the sun shinning through. It's a very cool picture. I'll forward it & you can choose to use it or not. I definately would want one for my SP!
Good thinking!

OK, I've done a little research into this - and we have a couple of options on how I do this - I'll let you vote! I was thinking of doing it as a mid-year calendar, because I wouldn't want to have to wait until next January to use it! So I thought I'd start it either with May or June - is that OK with everybody?

I can either produce it as a handcrafted item, kindof a scrapbooking style where you're at the mercy of my creativity, I'm thinking this would end up costing $20-$25, but I'm looking for cheaper places to get the supplies (no additional cost for customizing, since I'd be doing each one as a separate piece). Or I can just do it through a online photo site - if we do all the calendars the same (and I get at least 12), it would cost $14, customized ones (to make sure you have your horse's picture on the month of your choice) would cost about $20.

Which would you rather have?

Oh, and one other thing - if I do the online photo site calendar, I think it only has US holidays on it, so I would add the Canadian holidays on it by hand, if that's OK... but I may need a Canadian to tell me what those would be :)

Thought I'd bump this up - so far I only have 4 pictures, and I KNOW there's lots more good pictures of horses you guys have out there, so send them in!!! Cols - I still don't have yours, is it stuck in the ether somewhere?

Just so you know - of the 4 pictures I have so far, I think one would be great for December, one for January, one for March, and one for August, so spring/summer/fall pictures are particularly needed!

Hey ManyBucks - I didn't get one from ya - I'm sure I'll like it!!!

The pictures I've received so far - in case you've sent one and don't know whether or not I got it --

1) black horse in a snowstorm
2) two horses watching a hot air balloon
3) horse running in the snow
4) muddy horse

So please send in your photo nominations!!! send them to brendacostner@hotmail.com If you PM me when you've sent them then I can tell you whether or not I've received them. Seems I must have a gremlin that is not allowing me to receive all the pics!

Justbcos, This is a great idea! Good Luck with it! :)

I do not have the technology to send photos. Otherwise if I did you certaintly may place one of Evander's photos. If you are interested in placing one of Evander's photos in the calendar let me know. I could send you one via snail mail. Dueces r Wild2002 (Sue) has been generous and posted some of Evander's Photos on the JL site for me. If you go to picture.com, type in my last name Jones, then first name Ned. Click on the icon that reads Ned Edward Jones. There you will see a photo of Evander which will be published in a book coming out either next month or May. You will see other icons that has my name. These are a different variety of photos I have taken. A couple of these including Evander's photo has earned some photo awards.

HURRAY!! I got pics from Many Bucks, Ima_Sun_Frog, and Barn Girl, but I still have room for more. If you have sent them to me, pm me, and I'll send you a different email address, I don't know why some of these aren't getting to me the first time around. Makes me wonder how many of my other emails I'm not getting!!

Is it possible that you have your e-mail set to where it just throws away junk without having you see it first? It could be seeing all of these random e-mails from people you dont know and assuming it's junk.

I have been doing scrapbooking calanders for a while now for my family and friends for christmas.
The first ones I did on my computer using a calender creator program and that set everything up for me, all I had to do is add my photos that I wanted and then I personalized it with everyones birthdays and anniversarys in my family, and printed them out. That turned out pretty good, would have been better had I had a better printer.
The most recent ones I did, I just printed out the current calendar months, with the information on them that I wanted to add, then I scrapbooked the photos on, and used certain embellishments to enhance them. Those were awesome calendars and everyone that seen them wanted one. but would hard to mass produce. I went to my office supply store and they used the cone style binders and bound them for me for only $2.00 ea.

That was my original intent - to do the scrapbooking calendars, but my printer at home isn't that good with photos (very irritating, since that was what I bought it for - ARRGH), so I'd have to take them to Walgreens to get printed, and then with all the other supplies, I don't think I can turn them out as quickly or as cost-effectively as just getting them produced by the online site. But I might do one "scrapbook style" just to see how it goes, I do love to scrapbook too!

this particular email box never seems to throw anything away!! But I did check the junk folder just in case, and there's nothing out there. It is set to hold "junk" for 7 days, so I would have been out there in time to catch it if there was anything out there. If anybody is sending pictures and are putting spaces in the email address, or extra dots, that might be causing it. It is just "brendacostner" (all one word) followed by @hotmail.com It's weird, I'm getting some just fine, and others not. I know of two at least that I haven't received.

I know what you mean about the time and cost effectiveness for doing the scrapbooking calendars! It was just a thought that came through my mind. If you need any help with anything let me know, maybe we can figure someway for us to help each other.

I had to start scrapbooking to do something with all my pictures that I take. I have boxes of pictures to do something with...lol all of kids, family, pets and nature beauty. ;)

Ha ha - be careful, that's how I started - "I need to do something with all these pictures". And then I got addicted to scrapbooking, and started taking even MORE pictures, and now I'm afraid I'll never get caught up :D Oh well, it will be a lifetime of fun!

Hey everybody - I thought I'd bump this up... I never got 12 pictures, but if anybody would like to submit pictures for the calendar, and if anybody would like to have a JL calendar for 2007, I'm still up for getting some made up.

Let me know...

So far I have the following pics:
1) Belle with kids (thanks Cols)
2) Horses looking at Hot Air Balloon (Thanks Terri)
3) Kaiser and the rabbit (thanks Cols)
4) Nicholas (thanks DeucesRWild)
5) Horse in snowstorm (thanks Terri)
6) UnstableMom had sent me a picture of a muddy horse that I absolutely loved, but for some reason I can't open it... WAAAAHHHHH - if I could get another copy of that, it would be awesome
7) I thought that ManyBucks had sent me a picture of Mika, but I can't find it???

I had problems receiving the pictures last time, some people thought they sent me the pics but they never showed up - don't know why. So this time, we'll try a different email address. PM me if you have a picture you'd like included in the calendar, and I'll get you my email address.

OK, I found some more submissions - ManyBucks, I did find the ones you sent me of when Mika was just a tiny thing!

I have a couple where the pictures were sent to me as HTML files. Does anybody know how to convert a file from HTML to JPG?

Also - it has been suggested that I put all the pics out here on the board so people know what the months will look like. I'm OK with that, my only concern is that if we have more than one candidate for a particular month, I would hate for anybody's feelings to get hurt if their pic wasn't chosen.

What should we do? There are so many good pictures on this board, and so many good horses (!) that I really don't want to hurt anybody's feelings...

Some of the horses are practically celebrities, perhaps if we get enough pictures we have a "Celebrity" calendar and a "Just My Horse" calendar? ("just my horse" - this would be in reference to the conversation we've had about how a horse is not "just a horse" but means so much to us...)

To change those into jpg you might be able to open them in Internet Explore and then resave them as jpg or you could try sending me one and I could possibly change it.

I think it would be cool to be able to see the all calender months on here...Just a thought...
