View Full Version : Meteor's Coming Home!!

Okay, Meteor's been down at HorseNut's place since January. She was kind enough to open her pastures in my time of unemployment.
Well, then I got a job... in Iowa. HN is in Florida. Quite a distance.
The hauler I was initially going to be using (very highly recommended) quoted me $2600 to bring him up. This would put him in a box stall with no other horses on the trailer. The ride would be a straight drive from barn-to-barn. I was going to have to wait until April to do the move.
One of my current coworkers convinced me to look at some other haulers, just to see what else was out there. Well, low and behold, I found a hauler with an already scheduled trip from FL to Chicago. A slant stall would be $691. This was my face... The catch? The trip was 2 weeks away and we needed paperwork, an overnight barn in IL, and a transport from IL to IA for me.
Well, I managed to find it all and get it all, thank to some other very wonderful people (HN urging her vet to hurry with his bloodwork and Appy Trails for going to get him with me).
He should be stepping onto the trailer any minute now, be in Chicago on Wednesday, and AT and I will be going to get him on Friday.
My baby's coming home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS- I haven't seen him since July 2nd!!
What great news! How nice for HN and Appy Trails to help out in all this. What great friends you have! Can't wait to see pic's of Meteor!

Close... I used to live in GA. When I lost my job and was going to have to sell Meteor as I couldn't afford his board, HorseNut agreed to take him in on her property in northern FL for me. I went down every 4 weeks to trim his feet. Since I came up here to Iowa in July, my last trip to see Meteor was the weekend of July 1-2.

Oh, my gosh ! You must be over the MOON !
I can't imagine what that has been like for you to not see him in so long !
WOW !
That is so exciting.
That's one horse who is going to get the stuffing hugged out of him.
I so glad you were able to work it out and that it's not going to break the bank !

What a beauty Meteor is! All that white! Awesome.
What size bit do you use on him? He has such a dainty head!
What a wonderful thing HorseNut did for you!
More pics today right?

He actually takes a full 5" bit, believe it or not. I had him in a 4 3/4" but it was a smidgen too small, so up to the 5" we went. He definitely likes it better.
Most of my meteor pics are on my hubbies computer... I'll have to see if I can track some more down on mine when I get home tonight.

Aren't so many horse people like that? And this board is great to bringing them together. So very happy for you Carmen and proud of the people on this board that were able to help you.

Keeping that white white is quite the challenge!!
Julie- The place I'll be boarding him is where I'm taking lessons right now. It's about 35-40 minutes away, but it's what we need right now. They have an indoor arena and the pastures aren't 1/2 mile from the barn! When we get to a better place, depending on where we're living, I already have barn #2 in mind. They don't have an indoor, but have 15 miles of trails right off the property (and about 60+ acres of them on the property).

Has Meteor made it to Chicago yet? Any news or is it still to early?
Thinking of his travels. Prayers for safety.

Carmen, how is the new job going? You must be so excited to be getting Meteor back! He is really a flashy mover. Congratulations!

Thank you!
He should be arriving at his 2-night home near Chicago around 1am tonight. I'm getting so excited! Tomorrow is going to be SO SLOW! Then Friday we're off to get him.
Yes, red is his color. It was supposed to be blue, but whenever I would go to buy stuff for him, blue would be out of stock so I'd have to get red. (Red is hubby's fave color, blue is mine) So when we get him a horse eventually, it's color will have to be blue. :D
So far I like the job. Next week will be a fun one. A large document that we thought was due at the end of the month?... Well, we found out today they want it next Thursday!! This is a 600 page document that we have to export and format and create a table of contents, table of images, and table of tables for (BY HAND!!!). There's 2 of us to work on it (it's being transitioned from him to me), so it's going to be a major crunch.
Next up? Getting Dale and the rest of the critters up here, too!

Here's one of my favorite pics, that REALLY shows his personalilty.
My mom was giving treats to the pasture (all 3 horses) as it was her last time at my old barn. Burns and Star (the two TBs) were my favorite of the horses there. Plus, they didn't pick on Meteor at all as they were best buddies and just left him alone.
It just shows his personality to a 'T'.

He has arrived!! FINALLY!! He was originally scheduled to be there around 7pm last night and he just unloaded around 12:30pm today.
The first words out of the BOs mouth when I answered the phone were about how handsome and beautiful he is and about how well mannered and polite he is. I'm a proud mamma for sure.
She also said his reaction to seeing her clydes was pretty funny... his eyes just got really really big like "what in the heck are THOSE!!!" She has a 2yo stud that's already 18h and I think her biggest one right now measures in at 19.2h. Big kids!
She has an interesting mix out there of clydes and arabs, so Meteor fits right in. She also LOVES his halter (the beaded one) and was asking me a lot of questions about it. Another potential client?
About 24 hours until I get to see my baby again!

Yippee!!! He's home! Happy happy dance for you. The look on his face when he saw the Clyde's must have been hysterical. :)

Hurray! I'm glad he's off the trailer for a couple of days. I can imagine those Clydes being an eye-opener for him, they sure are impressive beasts!
Just a couple more days until he really really is home, right?

He's only at that barn for one night as we are getting him TOMORROWW!! :D :D
So I get to meet her clyde babies, too, including her 18h 2yo stud  .

Congratulations! I am so happy for you that he's home with you! You sound very tired, I hope everything went well for you with moving Meteor and you're only tired from work deadlines.
Speaking for myself, I'm dying to hear an update on how you and Meteor are doing after all this time, but I hope you are spending lots of time with him and less with us :D
What wonderful news!! I hope we get an update soon!! ;)

Pictures.....
He is OBSESSED with staring out this little window. He'll just stand there for 10-15 minutes straight and just stare out of it, watching the world.

Sticking his tongue out at us after we finally got him loaded on the trailer (took about 5 minutes and a bucket with some food in it).

His other obsession... the window into the tack room. He's moved so close to it that the tips of his ears are bent back.

The result of his obsession (notice the fog all along the bottom of the window).

Carmen, congrats! I can't imagine how you did it for all those months having him a HN's. I'd go crazy. That was so wonderful of her to keep him for you.
I love that last pic of the tips of his ears back. That is so cool. Chip also is facinated with the house windows in the back yard. They are funny aren't they!

I love those pictures! Looks like he's fascinated by his new home.
My horse is also fascinated with the windows into the barn, I think it is because she can see her reflection and she keeps wondering why "that" horse keeps doing exactly the same thing as she's doing, LOL.
Meteor seems to have quite the personality. He's a handsome guy!
